Curriculum-Based
Assessment Manual - Spanish
Students whose first language is Spanish represent the fastest growing
minority in the United States. Despite the number of students in public
schools who have limited English proficiency, fair and meaningful
assessment of students whose primary language is other than English
continues to be a significant challenge for educators.
Curriculum Based Assessment (CBA) is perhaps the most research-based
formative measure of student academic skills. It can be used for decision
making concerning individual students, as well as programs designed to
improve academic skills in reading, math or written expression. Because
CBA materials are taken directly from students’ curriculum, CBA
procedures offer a solution to many evaluation questions such as what
needs to be taught, which instructional practices are effective, and which
students need additional support.
The Curriculum Based Assessment Spanish
Materials Manual was created by
Seth
Aldrich, Ph.D.. Like its companion CBA Directions and
Materials Manual, this manual contains a brief overview of CBA,
directions for administration and scoring CBA, graphs for charting data,
case studies, and assessment probes.
